Moto G: How to Update Install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop (Cyanogenmod Custom ROM)

Moreover they have also promised that they won soon update it with Android latest version lollipop when it will be released by Google. After hearing this news Motorola owners started waiting eagerly for lollipop update. Before few days a Motorola engineer said that they will throw up Android latest update via OTP but it's quite sad to see that till now there's no update. It's quite sad to see that first they say yes they will do it then they won't keep their words later on which is quite disgusting for moto g owners. Why CyanogenMod Lollipop ROM
May be you are thinking that why only Cyanogen rom why not any other. Because Cyanogenmod is very popular and a big name in custom ROM industry. They have already confirmed that new CM12 is night version of AOSP 5.0 Lollipop. This custom ROM has stock version of original Android with some killer customizable features.

CyanogenMod 12 firmware is not fully completed yet. It may have some bugs, issues. Though personally i have tested night version of it with custom kernels to make things work accordingly. From one week i have used moto without any issue. (Tested on Dual
SIM XT1033).

Requirements for Upgrading to Android Lollipop
Your Bootloader in Moto G should be unlocked which is a Must thing.
Custom Recovery.
Should have CyanogenMod 11 Stable or nightly version
ROM
Last but not least is CyanogenMod 12 ROM

How to Unlock The Motorola G BootLoader
For unlocking the Bootloader the only thing that I recommend you to follow official guidelines. Will be much helpful then other tutorials. Go here at Motorola Website, do follow that's given in their Article.

How to Flash the Custom Recovery on Moto G Android
Your phone is in default mode normally and it have stock recovery to do the recovery, reset and other stuffs.

To install Android Lollipop 5.0.2 CM12 nightly in your device you need custom recovery something like Philz Touch Recovery.

So here we will install up custom recovery Philz. Touch up compatible to Kitkat to go back to your current Android OS ROM. Thus backup will help you i  reinstalling the Current OS back Again incase any malfunction happens during the process. So be smart and play safe.

It's time to connect your moto g device to you Desktop or Laptop using usb data cable. After doing all this now type the below command in Command Prompt or in Linux or in Mac Terminal. Command us given below.

adb devices

By using above command it will automatically do list out devices that's attached to the PC. If that's not happened in case then install Motorola Device Drivers from the Moto site. Now your device will be listed, enter the below commands one by one. You need PhilZ Touch Recovery 6.50.6 so download it from below link.

Download Philz right Now 6.50.6
Command that you have to enter is given below:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery [recovery location and name].img

For eg: fastboot flash recovery C:\Downloads\philz_touch_6.50.6-falcon.img
After doing all this now take nandroid  backup from the option that are given on your screen. (Backup or Restore). Now do flash latest version of Philz touch Recovery to install Android lollipop.
Download latest Philz software from here.

Steps to install Android Lollipop 5.0.2 on Moto G
So to install Cyanogenmod 12 Lollipop version in your moto g you have to install Cyanogenmod 11 first. Though it's not mandatory but many users facing Bootloop error when they are installing CM 12 directly. So it's like safety precaution.

Download
1. Download the CyanogenMod 11 Stable version from this Link right now.

After that connect you moto Mobile to computer by using data cable. Move the Downloaded zip file to any Folder that you want but it should be in phone storage not SD or Memory Card.

In command prompt type below commands as given:

adb devices
adb reboot bootloader

or you have other option just Press the power + Volume Down button for 30 seconds to see Fastboot recovery screen on your mobile. Select recovery from the boot screen then it will load Philz touch custom recovery. Now tap up on wipe data/factory reset option and select Clean to install New ROM.

Don't forget to wipe dalvik cache, date cache. After all this select +++Goback+++ and choose the ‘install zip from SD card’. It will open up all folders from internal storage. By going there select downloads Folder or any Folder where you saved the file before select CyanogenMod 11 Zip file Then Tab on Yes

Oooohhh that's it. It will automatically install CM11 and you will be shown up a Reboot message. Just go back and Reboot your
Device. After rebooting, your phone will load CM11 KitKat.

Now, Download CyanogenMod 12 nightly 27 file from here and move that downloaded file in phone downloads Folder.

Then just Follow up the steps above. But don't forget to change the file this time. (Select the CM 12 Zip from the Downloads Folder)

Now your Mobile Motorola G 1st Gen will take few minutes to complete the full booting process. Just wait and watch.

Now go to phone servings and tap on about to see the current Android version.

How to Flash GAPPS in Moto G Lollipop 5.0.2 CM12
As you know that normally CM12 doesn't have Google Apps like
Playstore, Gmail, Music etc. Though You can flash those apps like we did above.

Just Download GAPPS package from Here for Lollipop CM12 .
(Simply Choose any Package out there) do check WiFi, Call, Mobile Data functions twice. If
you face any problem in Wifi Turning or any type bug or Signal problem in the Network then you have to install below  Custom Kernel to fix these things easily.

How to Flash Custom Kernels in Moto G Lollipop 5.0.2 CyanogenMod 12
Same Like above steps, you just have to download Custom Kernel Zip file and move that in the Downloads folder and do flash that file using ‘install zip from SD card’.

Though i have tested Android Linux Custom Kernels for Moto G and TGM- Hybrid Kernel which fixes the
Dual SIM Networks and wifi issues.
